TAR... FEATHERS - MAKE WAY FOR THE OCEAN FLOOR TO FALL TO THE SURFACE CD
Tar... Feathers are from Göteborg, Sweden, and consists of the Release The Bats-hangaround and dear friend Marcus Nyke. Last summer he put out a limited cd-r release that circulated in the town for a while and created quite a buzz among the lucky ones. What first was supposed to be released as a cdep quickly turned in to a full album and here it is: Make Way For The Ocean Floor To Fall To The Surface!
Make Way For The Ocean Floor consists of 10 well-crafted songs with a wonderful vibe of lo-fi and d.i.y aesthetics. The sound can be compared with some of the best stuff from the K Records bands (think early Modest Mouse, Microphones and even some Beat Happening), take that whole sound and mix it up with some Joan Of Arc, Owls and all those bands. Add some hints of The Head On The Door-era The Cure to that and you may be close! Probably the most melancholic and gloomy record we have put out so far but in some weird way this is still music that manages to make you very happy in the end. Together with a bunch of friends and collaborators Marcus has created a genuine masterpiece. You usually always tend to think that the latest release you have put out is the best one, but Make Way For The Ocean Floor will always have a very special place for me.
Marcus handles all the main duties on the recording with help from Simon Stålhamre (I Am The Sanctuary), Pål Olovsson (Close Your Eyes And Think Of England) and Morten Billeskalns (Chronic Heist/Ex-Jr Ewing) on various instruments on most of the songs. Anna Tomlin from Audrey also contributes with vocals on one track. Recorded in a small attic on a island on the Swedish east coast during last autumn/winter and finalized in Stockholm early ´06. Recording/mixing by Simon Stålhamre.
Comes in a full color digipack with a small foldout sheet with lyrics. Drawings and design by Marcus.
